TEACHING METHOD AND MEDIUMS

At InScribe, we subscribe to the philosophy that all students have a preferred medium through which they learn and that adults have a different way of learning and integrating new information.

It is also accepted that different students learn through different mediums; visual, listening or hands on. One student may find a visual approach more effective while another needs a more hands on approach. The most effective approach is to combine each of the three methods - cover the material once visually, once by listening and once by doing.

To this end, we have incorporated various mediums in our course

1. Guided Presentations (visual)

The student will follow a guided presentation, which plays on their web browser. This presentation will guide and instruct the student through each step of the course. Each module is broken into individual sections and each section is accompanied by its own stand-alone presentation

2. Interactive word games and quizzes (Hands on)

As the student progresses through each module, they will be automatically directed to play interactive word games and to perform self-assessments through interactive quizzes.

3. Glossaries of terms with pronunciation (Listening)

Presentations are accompanied by glossaries of terms, where applicable. These glossaries will include new terms introduced in each section. The glossaries are interactive and play a recording of the pronunciation of each term the student selects.

4. Diagrams and samples (Visual)

Diagrams are included where appropriate for the anatomy sections. A vast array of sample reports is included with each section to give the student a glimpse of real medical records.

5. Practicing hand, eye, and foot coordination (Visual, listening and hands on)

Students will have the opportunity to listen to real dictation while following along with the transcribed report. This will help attune the student's ear to the sound of medical dictation, give the student a vision of what a report should look like and give the student practice with hand, foot, and eye coordination as they navigate their way through .wav files controlled by foot pedals and through documents controlled by keyboards.

6. Practical (Hands on)

Students will have many hours of practice dictation to transcribe and students will be required to transcribe test dictation to submit to instructors for grading.

HOW WE PREPARE OUR STUDENTS

We insist on the same level of excellence from our students as we do from our already trained and seasoned transcriptionists. InScribe University’s course is a self-guided course. However, students turn in work throughout and at the end of each module for evaluation by our experienced mentors and faculty. Beginning with Module Two, students will be turning in real doctor’s dictation and will receive feedback from their mentors on each dictation turned in. Students will not be allowed to proceed to the next module until they have reached the level of proficiency required for each module.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE END OF TRAINING

We do not promise overnight riches to our graduates. Transcription is a precise and demanding skill requiring practice, experience and commitment. We do promise that you will be prepared to begin working as a medical transcriptionist when you graduate our program. Through our mentoring program and community forum, you will build and maintain valuable contacts within the medical transcription field. We are committed to providing you with the training and experience you need to begin building a lifelong career as a medical transcriptionist, training to work from home or to take to a hospital or doctor’s office and join an onsite team of transcriptionists.
